What is Baltic Amber?
Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin and comes in a variety of shapes and colors. Some experts claim one color is better than the other. Nesting has not been able to find concrete studies to prove this to be true. The color of the Baltic Amber beads, the shape or whether the beads are polished or not have no bearing on how the Baltic Amber necklaces and bracelets work. Amber contains succinic acid, a natural anti-inflammatory, analgesic healing agent. Amber will warm against your body and the succinic acid will be absorbed through your skin to help with pain relief.
What ailments does Baltic Amber help with?
Used for centuries, Baltic Amber has been used for a variety of ailments from teething pain to arthritis. Scientific research has shown that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human body. It improves immunity and the balance of acids when absorbed into the bloodstream; it stimulates the thyroid glands to help reduce drooling and soothe inflamed areas. Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are recognized by allopathic medicine as a natural analgesic (pain reliever), which can help to relieve many painful conditions in babies and toddlers, teenagers, adults and seniors.

Can my baby chew on the necklace?
No. Necklaces are not to be chewed on, the amber and other stones releases microscopic amounts of oil, as it warms with the body's natural temperature, which are absorbed into the skin and bloodstream. Baltic amber contains succinic acid (anti-fever, anti-inflammatory), the compound that gives Baltic Amber teething necklaces the therapeutic quality. **FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3*** Necklaces should be removed during naps and when unsupervised.
Baltic amber is an organic substance, a โfossil resinโ produced by pine trees which grew in Northern Europe. By having the baby wear the necklace everyday it helps reduce the common symptoms related to teething such as: red cheeks, fever, swollen gums, and diaper rash.
How do I select the right size?
The infant necklaces are 10" to 11"
The tween/teen necklaces are 14" to 15"
The adult necklaces start at 18" and run up to 44"
When selecting an appropriate size, ensure that the necklace isn't too tight to cause discomfort. In addition, it should not be so loose that the child can lift it up into his/her mouth or be able to fit their fist through it.
Nesting recommends trying the necklace on your baby in the store during the time of purchase. However if you are purchasing online, you can use a piece of yarn to determine the appropriate length of necklace. We typically size down for in-between sized babies. And, we also sell 2" extenders that screw onto your necklace, sold separately.
*A GREAT IDEA: you can also double wrap necklaces around your wrists and ankles which is especially helpful for carpel tunnel in the wrists, ankle and foot pain, knee pain, etc. Just use a string to help decide the perfect length.
Can my baby wear the necklace to bed?
To get the most therapeutic value from the necklace, the baby should wear it as much as possible during the day. It is not recommended that the baby wear it to bed, or while unsupervised.
What are the safety features of this necklace?
With each Amber necklace, each bead is individually knotted on the string. This ensures that if the baby were to break the necklace, they would only be able to free one bead.
The plastic clasp at the back is free from all metals and allergens and is also held together by knots. This ensures if there were enough pressure placed on the necklace, the clasp would break open.
We recommend NOT screwing the clasp too tight. Over-screwing the clasp may cause the plastic clasp to crack and break.
How do I care for the Amber necklace?
You will want to avoid lotions, polishes, waxes and other residues that might coat the surface of the stones creating a barrier from the healing succinic acid.
How to clean them?
Just use warm-to-hot water and a soft cloth to wipe the beads when needed.
Can they get wet?
Yes, but we prefer to keep them chemical free as the chemicals may interfere with the effectiveness. So, remove it before jumping into the pool and hot tub.
Can it be worn in the bath?
Yes, periodic exposure to water and soaps is fine. But, be aware that over time, water may deteriorate the thread keeping the necklace together and it may break, which is not covered under warrantly. The water will help cleanse and warm the Baltic Amber which will increase effectiveness.
How long does the Baltic Amber last?
Simply put, your amber will last many lifetimes. No need to worry about your necklace "running out" of juice.
Is there actual food in the necklace?
The shades of color may be described as "lemon," "milk," "honey," "cherry," etc. but, NO, these foods are not actually added to the necklace. We simply use these terms to identify the color of Baltic Amber. Milk is a whitish yellow, Lemon is a lemony yellow. Honey is a golden yellowish brown. Cognac is a darker brown. Cherry is typically black in color. Occasionally you may notice some red or ruby tints but cherry is mostly black. Multi or Rainbow are a mix of three or four colors above. Shades of color can also vary from light to dark based on when the amber was mined.
If I purchase two, will they be identical?
Probably not! The amber is all natural from the earth. Each bit of tree resin is hardened into a bead to be placed onto the necklace. The beads are sorted by size and strung. But color, shape, texture can vary from necklace to necklace. It is more rare to find two that are exact.
Which is best? Raw? Polished? Color?
The answer is simple. They all work GREAT. There is absolutely no difference in color or polish when it comes to inflammation. 99% of babies will see results in 30 minutes. Adults may experience relief within the first hour that will continue to grow to about days 4-6. If you do not see results by day 7, contact us, we can swap for amber from a different batch. Some studies suggest that some people do respond to one color vs another (very rare) and in even more rare occurrences, roughly .005% will not respond to amber at all. We are happy to work with you to exchange or refund if that is your experience. Just buy the necklace you love and it should work well for you!
